Are you ready to pursue your dream job but still not sure what it is? Or maybe it’s time to change companies but you don’t know what job title to put in the search bar? Knowing yourself is the place to start. What you’re good at. What you like to do and what skills you have or want to develop. Equally important is knowing what you are not good at and what you don’t like to do even if you are good at it.
Capturing our top skills and accomplishments can be a challenge but there are some shortcuts that can help. One of which is using interest and personality assessment. There are plenty of paid and free assessment tools out there but I will share a couple to get you started. If you want to go deeper, another one I really like is Strengths Finder but it’s not free. The least expensive way to do SF is to buy the book, just make sure you buy it new so it comes with the online access code to the assessment.
O*net Interest Profiler helps you figure out what your interests are and what kind of careers they map to. The free 16 Personalities Assessment gives you self-knowledge about how you’re wired, how you perceive and interact with the world. It may look familiar because it’s an abbreviated version of the Meyers Briggs personality types.
