Brokenness, chaos, rejection, latchkey kid, dysfunction, broken home, divorce, single mom… All those terms are a part of my past. I don’t hide it and I don’t mind sharing my story if it gives someone else hope in knowing they are not alone. I am a woman with brokenness and regrets but I refuse, REFUSE, to let that define me or limit my future joy.
But the most important part of my story is the healing and restoration I experienced. Even though I took the long way around and did everything the hard way, I did eventually overcome. I went to college and had a successful career in engineering. More recently, I landed my dream job and started my 2nd career with a mission-focused organization that empowers women to take back control of their lives and start over after some pretty tough knocks. Go figure! I can totally relate and thank God for second chances. (And third, fourth and fifth chances)
The point is, I was not dealt the easiest hand, and even made things harder with some of my own choices. But I took on the challenge and with God’s help, I overcame the odds and landed in a stronger place with a solid foundation. You can, too. Sounds like a happy ending, right? But wait there’s more. Be careful what you ask for. Sometimes we get what we want just to find out it brings a whole new set of challenges. Stay tuned for part 2 next week.
